Obituary for Anne Stafford Carlisle

Anne Stafford Carlisle, 99, widow of Homer Clement Carlisle, Jr. died Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Covenant Place.

Born in Orr, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of the late John Alvin Stafford and the late Ethel Luvenia Rodgers Stafford. Mrs. Carlisle was a member of Harmony Church. For over two decades, she taught kindergarten and managed youth programs in the Sumter community. She began working for the Parks and Recreation department in the early 1960’s. Following that she was the director of the kindergarten program at Aldersgate United Methodist Church where she was a charter member. She finished her career at Wilson Hall School. She touched the lives of hundreds of young people in Sumter and many came to visit her while at Covenant Place where she was a resident for more than seventeen years.

Survivors include a son, H. Clem Carlisle, III (Janis) of Midlothian, Virginia; a daughter, Maureen Carlisle of Sumter; four grandchildren, Paige Trebour (Chris), Leslie Buck (Chris), Charles Carlisle (Heather), and Maj. Anthony Ching (Krista); thirteen great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Carlisle Harris.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Sumter Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Dan Barber officiating.

Pallbearers will be Charles G. Carlisle, Maj. Anthony P. Ching, Christopher T. Trebour, Lakin C. Trebour, Conner C. Trebour, and Tanner E. Ratliff.

The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
