Carl Stephen Smith, 76, husband of Rebecca Green Smith, died Friday, August 18, 2017, at NHC Healthcare in Sumter.
Born October 16, 1940, in Davenport, Iowa, he was a son of the late Calvin Armine Smith and the late Hulda May Schillin Smith. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force and was a Vietnam War veteran. He was a member of Sumter First Church of God and the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife of 29 years; two sons, Stephen Smith (Patricia) and William Smith (Amy) all of Sumter; four step-sons, Haston Reynolds, Allen Reynolds (Marylou), and Norman Reynolds (Faye) all of Olanta, and Elbert Strickland (Tracy) of Charleston; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, David Smith; two brothers and nine sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Sunday at Sumter First Church of God with the Rev. Ron Bower officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be William Smith, Allen Reynolds, Carson Smith, Freddy Reynolds, Franklin Reynolds, and Robbie Parnell.
Honorary pallbearers will be Clayton Smith, Jonathan Lee, and Isaac Hill.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 P.M. Sunday at Sumter First Church of God and other times at the home.
