Obituary for Howard Dickson Lowder Sr.

Howard Dickson Lowder, Sr. 86, husband of Dorothy “Dot” Lowder Lowder, died Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at Palmetto Health Tuomey.
Born March 20, 1931 in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Leon Clyde Lowder, Sr. and the late Inez Scurry Lowder. He was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, the Men’s Club and the Kennedy Bible Class of St. Mark’s, and the American Legion Post 15. He retired from Herald Office Supply and he was a U.S. Army WWII veteran.
A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, “Papa Howard” is survived by his wife of 43 years; children Bobbie Jean L. McGuire, Cindy R. Parker (Bruce), Timmie Ridgeway (Donna), and Howard D. “Chip” Lowder, Jr. (Brandi) all of Sumter County; seven grandchildren, Gerald Hardin, Jr., B.J. Dennis Johnson, Sean Sutton, Scott Ridgeway, Chase Ridgeway, Morgan Lowder, and Sam Lowder; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters; a number of nieces and nephews; and his beloved schnauzer, Finn.
He was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Melissa Sutton and Emma Lowder; four brothers, Leon Lowder, Jr., Wilford Lowder, Tommy Lowder, and Derle Lowder; and a sister Jacqueline Tanner.

Pall bearers are Bruce Parker, Sean Sutton, Scott Ridgeway, L. Michael Allen, Christian Sutton, and Christopher Johnson. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Clayton Lowder, III, Dr. Vijay Pinto, and the members of the Kennedy Bible Class.

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Allen Vaught and the Rev. Billy Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery near Manning.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Friday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 27 Broad Street, Sumter, SC 29150 and The Sounds of Grace, 3 Crowson Street, Sumter, SC 29150.
