Obituary for Lewis Perry "Luke" Hendrix

Lewis Perry “Luke” Hendrix, 86, husband of Marguerite “Molly” White Hendrix, died Saturday, May 27, 2023, at Prisma Health Tuomey.

Born February 9, 1937, in Cheraw, he was a son of the late James Lemuel Hendrix and the late Annie Mae Gainey Hendrix. A faithful follower of the Lord, Mr. Hendrix was a member of Dalzell Baptist Church, and former long-time member of New Salem Baptist Church. He was a self-employed carpenter. A very giving person, he always had a helping hand for anyone in need. Mr. Hendrix was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves.

Survivors in addition to his wife of nearly 61 years include three sons, Marty Hendrix (Patti), Keith Hendrix, and Waylon Hendrix (Melissa) all of Sumter; three grandchildren that he adored greatly, Carson Hendrix, Avery Hendrix, and Emmy Hendrix; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Billy Hendrix, Claude Hendrix, and Elliott Hendrix.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel officiated by the Rev. Mark Barnette. Burial will be in the Sumter Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jody White, Jody Atkinson, Carey Turner, Carey Turner, Jr., David Poythress, and Christopher Poythress.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the Home.
