Obituary for Curtis Wayne Jones

Curtis Wayne Jones, Sr., 86, widower of Joan Cable Jones, died Sunday, April 30, 2023, at Agapé Hospice House in Lexington.

Born August 8, 1936, in Miami, Florida, he was a son of the late Hubert Tillman Jones and the late Maggie Myrtle Marie Benzing Jones. Mr. Jones was a member of St. John United Methodist Church. He retired from the U. S. Marine Corps after 26 years and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He later worked as a machinist at NADEP at Cherry Point until his retirement in 1995 when he relocated to Sumter. He was a member of Sumter American Legion Post 15.

Survivors include his three children, Theria L. Culley, Ada Marie Maysonet (Oscar), and Joseph Jones (Andee); three grandchildren, Nathan L. Maysonet, Curtis W. Jones, III, and Kayla Jones; one brother, Mark T. Jones; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Curtis W. Jones, Jr., and five brothers, Glenn Jones, Donald Jones, Earl Jones, Carl Jones, and James Jones.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at St. John United Methodist Church officiated by the Rev. John McLeod. Burial with full military honors will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at St. John United Methodist Church and other times at the home.
