Obituary for Debra Lynn McElveen

Debra Lynn McElveen, 60, died Friday, April 28, 2023, at the home of her daughter.

Born April 9, 1963, in Sumter, she was a daughter of Charlotte Lashley Atkinson, and the late Joel McElveen. She was a member of Eastside Baptist Church. She retired from the S.C. Department of Transportation where she worked in the human resources department.

Our Mom, Debra Lynn McElveen was a loving mother, that was always so selfless. Lynn was always willing to lend a helping hand, even when she could only speak to cheer you up. Lynn was such a blessing to many, and will forever be cherished by those who came into her life.

Survivors in addition to her mother of Sumter include two children, Michael Clint Weaver (Rebecca), and Kristen Caples (Sidney) both of Sumter; three grandchildren, Caroline Weaver, Hailey Weaver, and Carter Caples; one brother, Rev. Wayne McElveen of Sumter; one sister, Ann Deal (Tim) of Columbus, OH; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Wells Cemetery in Elliott officiated by the Rev. Ed Sanders.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, 2871 Foxcroft Circle.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Sabrina Veronee for the exceptional and loving care she provided.
