Obituary for John Perry Poole

John Perry Poole, 89, husband of the late Margie Hodge Poole for over 63 years, went to be with the Lord Friday, March 10, 2023.

Born October 21, 1933, in Clarendon County, he was the son of the late Blaney Johnson Poole and the late Lottie Rebecca DuBose Corbett Poole. He attended school in Clarendon and Sumter counties. He attended Edmunds High School and finished with a diploma from the State Board of Education in 1970. Perry was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran and retired from SCDOT after more than 30 years of service. He was an active member of Concord Baptist Church since 1999, serving as Deacon, Church Clerk, Sunday School Director, Sunday School Teacher, song leader, as well as many other duties in the church.

He was an active Gideon with the Sumter Camp and Assistant Chaplain with the American Legion Post #15 for about one year. He was a Genealogist and Historian, a member and volunteer of the Sumter County Genealogical Society, past board member of Camp Longridge. He served on the advisory board of the U.S. Postal Service, served on the advisory board of The Easy Street Safe Federal Credit Union, and sang with the Mission To Men Group.

He is survived by one precious daughter, Becky Brewer and son-in-law, Gil Brewer. He also leaves many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Agnes Poole Nesbitt, Letha Corbett Cato, and Ola Jean Corbett Migliozzi.

A graveside service will be held at 3 P.M. Tuesday in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Frank Shivers officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 P.M. Tuesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home.
