Linda “Joyce” Smoak Smith, 75, wife of Robert S. “Robbie” Smith, Jr., died Thursday, January 26, 2023, at her home.
Born September 16, 1947, in Orangeburg, she was a daughter of the late James H. Smoak and the late Charlotte Gunn Smoak. She was a very active member of Pinewood Baptist Church where she served as WMU Director and was a longtime member of the choir. She loved young people and served as a Sunday School teacher and on the Youth Committee for many years. She received her degree in nursing in 1967 from the University of South Carolina nursing school. She worked as a registered nurse at the Women’s Center and Tuomey/Prisma Healthcare System.
Survivors include her husband of 29 years; children, Christie Browder (Steve) and Cyndi Hall; stepchildren, Patrick Smith (Johna) and Kevin Smith (Rebecca); grandchildren, Christen (Shane), Lance, Liam, Raegan, Brantley, Ryanne, and Hallie; sisters, Julia Tingen (Brick) and Janice Bennett (Mick); and brothers, Jim Smoak (Chrissy), Joey Smoak (Chris), and Jon Smoak (Lisa).
A funeral service will be held at 3 P.M. Sunday in the Pinewood Baptist Church with the Rev. Brian Gray and the Rev. Bennie Barwick officiating. Burial will be in the Pinewood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tony Hansen, Bruce Bennett, Ray Elliott, Michael Avin, Leslie McIntosh, and Jimmy Charles.
Honorary pallbearers will be Buddy Avin, Jimmy Barwick, and Bill Oswald.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 P.M. Sunday in the Pinewood Baptist Church Fellowship Hall and other times at the home.
