Obituary for Eleanor Paige Hughes (Howell)
Eleanor Paige Howell Hughes, 83, widow of Joseph Gilbert Hughes, Sr., died Thursday, December 15, 2022, at Prisma Health Tuomey.
Born November 4, 1939, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Roy P. Howell, Sr., and the late Beulah Juanita Durham Howell. She was a worked as an LPN and retired from Briggs Nursing Home in Silver. She was a loving mother and grandmother.
Survivors include six children, Ruth Hughes Riley, Joye Elizabeth Hughes, Joseph “Jody” G. Hughes, Jr. (Tammy), Gayle Hughes Shirah (Jimmy), Jeffrey Grant Hughes (Cindy), and John Allen Hughes (Stephanie); eleven grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Deyerl Squires; a brother, Roy P. Howell, Jr.; and two sisters, Patricia Ann Howell, and Carolyn Howell.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Brewington Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Brandon Hughes, Travis Wilson, Andy Vorhis, Justin Vorhis, Cody Squires, and Jessie Hughes.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter Gayle Shirah, 4250 Muriel Street.
