Obituary for Shirley Ruth Boykin (Lynch)

Shirley Ruth Lynch Boykin, 83, wife of Charles E. Boykin, Sr., died Saturday, October 1, 2022, at Prisma Health Tuomey.

Born July 26, 1939, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late William Oliver Lynch and the late Fozia Lowder Lynch. Mrs. Boykin worked with Santee Print Works for a short time, and later operated a home daycare until her retirement. She also operated a booth at the Sumter Flea Market for more than thirty years.

Survivors in addition to her husband of forty-seven years include seven children, Virginia Corbett (Stanley), Ray Gibson (Tricia), Barbara Vansteenburg (Mark), Bill Gibson (Lisa), Tony Gibson (Misty), Bobby Gibson (Beth), and Charles “Charlie” E. Boykin, Jr. (Tina); sixteen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Brewer (Thomas), Mickie Sims (Rut), and Pat Brendlen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel officiated by the Rev. Tony Lupton. Burial will be in the Sumter Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Robert Corbett, Christopher Odom, Brooks Aull, Matthew Aull, Kody Dunson, and Roy Barker. Cody Barker will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of her son, Bill Gibson, 2258 Hodge Circle in Manning.
