Caroline Hollingsworth Stone Sigmon, 79, passed away Monday, August 22, 2022, surrounded by family at her home after an extended illness.
Born September 10, 1942, in Charlotte, NC, she was a daughter of the late Theodore Croft Stone and the late Ossie Floyd Mauldin Stone. She was a 1960 graduate of Edmunds High School and attended Coker College. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she served on the Mary Martha Committee. She worked at the Sumter Daily Item with over twenty-five years of service and retired as the Display Advertising Manager. Upon retirement, she was the owner of Best of Seasons where she served family recipes for many years.
Survivors include a loving son, Theodore Stone “Tad” Baird (Cathy); a daughter-in-love, Sharon Hudson Baird Caywood (Jim); precious granddaughters, Brittany Paige Baird Collins and Alison Holleigh Baird Warren (Brantlee); a great-granddaughter, Haleigh McCall Collins; a great-grandson, Sawyer Lucas Brown; future great-grandson, Brantlee Michael Warren; a caring sister, Floride Winstead “Windy” Stone Corbett; three special nephews, Wesley Christopher “Kit” Corbett (Tom), Eric Theodore Corbett (Laluu), and Glenn Joseph “Joey” Corbett (Elena); and three great-nieces that she adored, Natalie Eman Corbett, Rose Caroline Corbett, and Charlotte Caroline Thorne-Corbett.
She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Woodrow Baird, Jr.; and a sister, Elizabeth Ann “Libba” Stone; three husbands, Harold Alford Sigmon, Sr., Arthur Dean Walker, Jr., and Michael Woodrow “Woody” Baird, Sr.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Bob Brearley officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Theodore Stone “Tad” Baird, Wesley Christopher “Kit” Corbett, Eric Theodore Corbett, Glenn Joseph “Joey” Corbett, Brantlee Evans Warren, and James Kevin Lamb.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday in the parlor at First Presbyterian Church and other times at the home.
