Rose Cole Smith, 92, widow of Robert Wesley Smith, Sr., died Saturday, July 9, 2022, at Covenant Place.
Born March 6, 1930, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Fred Clifton Cole, Sr. and the late Lillian White Cole. She was a member of Crosspoint Baptist Church. Mrs. Smith was a co-owner of Cole’s Restaurant until its closing in 1999.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Wayne Smith (Peggy) and William H. “Bill” Smith (BJ) both of Sumter; five grandchildren, Chad Smith (Deanna), Jennifer Smith, Blake Smith, Clarke Smith (Heather), and Sean Skey (MaryBeth); four great grandchildren, Walker Smith, Marsha Kate Skey, Greyson Smith, and Anne Beatson Skey; one sister, Patty Ciampi of Houston, TX; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert Wesley Smith, Jr.; a daughter, Marsha Smith Skey; a brother, Fred Clifton Cole, Jr.; and three sisters, Eleanor Cole Patterson, Joanne Cole Crawford, and Marguerite Cole Veltre.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel officiated by the Rev. Tim Simpson and the Rev. Barbee Parsons. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Chad Smith, Blake Smith, Clarke Smith, Sean Skey, Walker Smith, and Glenn Posey.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home.
