Obituary for Genevieve Newell Owens
Genevieve Newell Owens, 78, stepped into the embrace of her Savior, Jesus Christ Thursday, July 7, 2022, at Prisma Health Tuomey.
Born May 20, 1944, in Hemingway, she was a daughter of the late John Marion Newell and the late Tulah Hughes Newell. She loved the Lord and was a very loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt.
Survivors include five children, Gordon McNair Owens, Jr. (Jeanna) of Sumter, Genny O. McDaniel (Joe) of West Columbia, Gail B. Queen (David) of Lexington, Greta O. Brown (David) of Mt. Pleasant, and Glenda Owens of Mt. Pleasant; eight grandchildren, Gordon M. Owens, III (Taylor), Allison Owens, Jacob Owens, Kenny Turner, Christopher Turner (Katelyn), Megan Argoe, Taylor Brown, and Dylan Brown; seven great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Mary Coughlin of St. Augstine, FL, Wilma Jackson of Summerville, Norma Peterson of Ft. Worth, TX, and Talou Altman of Hemingway.
She was preceded in death by a brother, John Newell, and three sisters, Beverly Ann N. Boswell, Juanita N. Maranville, and Vesta Woodfield.
A graveside service will be held at 3 P.M. Sunday in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Henry Altman officiating.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of NHC Healthcare Sumter and the Prisma Health Tuomey staff for the compassionate care they provided.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 P.M. Sunday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home.
