Obituary for James Gerald "Jim" Keels Jr.

James “Jim” Gerald Keels, Jr., 83, passed away Monday, July 4, 2022, at Prisma Health Tuomey.

Born July 28, 1938, in Sumter, he was a son of the late James Gerald Keels, Sr. and the late Melba Irene Kolb Keels. Jim was a six-year veteran of the United States Air Force and Air National Guard. He spent most of his career in sales, especially with the automobile industry. His favorite job was delivering prescriptions for Alderman Drug Co. He genuinely cared for the people he served. He greeted everyone with a smile, a corny antidote, and treats for their pets. He loved teaching the Senior Men’s Sunday School Class at Grace Baptist Church. Jim wanted everyone to know God and grow in Him daily.

Survivors include three children, Scott Morgan Keels of Hendersonville, NC, Mark Lowery Keels (Sandra) of Nebo, NC, and John Phillip Keels of Raleigh, NC; two granddaughters, Aidan Danielle, and Lauren Faith; numerous cousins; and his best friend, Clint Barwick.

A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. Thursday, July 7 in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Steve Williams officiating. Burial will be in the Sumter Cemetery next to his beloved parents.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Prisma Health Tuomey Hospice, 500 Pinewood Rd #2, Sumter, SC 29154.
