Obituary for Robert Cooper "Robbie" Melton III
Robert “Robbie” Cooper Melton, III, 67, husband of Nancy Hodge Melton, died Thursday, June 23, 2022, at his home.
Born December 16, 1954, in Manning, he was the son of Virginia Osborne Haley, and the late Robert Cooper Melton, Jr. Mr. Melton was a graduate of Clemson University. He was previously employed by Talley Construction for nineteen years, and recently with Newton Construction.
Survivors include his wife of forty-four years; his mother of Manning; one son, Robert “Rocky” Cooper Melton, IV (Ashley) of Sumter; one daughter, Jessica Melton Smith of Dalzell; four grandchildren, Savanna Smith, Brantley Smith, Cooper Melton, and Mary Paige Melton; three sisters, Libby Way of Manning, Kathy Jackson (Bobby) and Jennifer Whitesides (Jeffrey) both of Lexington; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Providence Baptist Church, 2445 Old Manning Rd, Sumter, officiated by the Rev. Bobby Jackson and the Rev. Wayne McElveen.
Pallbearers will be Jay Hodge, Craig Hodge, John Robert Jackson, Mitch Hodge, Michael Way, and Chandler Whitesides.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Providence Baptist Church and other times at the home.
