Obituary for Lonnie C. Rodgers

Sumter, SC

Lonnie C. Rodgers, 92, widower of Lila Faye Hill Rodgers, died Monday, June 13, 2022, at his home.

Born September 7, 1929, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Mendel Britton Rodgers and the late Neelie Stokes Rodgers. He was the oldest member of Sumter First Church of God and retired from the City of Sumter.

Survivors include four children, Johnnie DuPree (Lorrie) of Lafayette, GA, Larry Rodgers of Augusta, GA, Rhonda Pack of Wedgefield, and Greta Fields (Mike) of Pickens; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, James Arthur Rodgers and Roy Mendel Rodgers; four brothers, Lynberg Rodgers, Clarence Rodgers, D.B. “Shorty” Rodgers, and Ray Rodgers; and a sister, Jennie Overstreet.

A funeral service will be held at 4 P.M. Friday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Ron Bower officiating. Burial will be in the Sumter Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 P.M. Friday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home.
