Obituary for Juanita Matthews Player
Juanita Matthews Player, 82, widow of John D. “J.D.” Player, died Sunday, May 15, 2022, at Stratford Place in Goose Creek.
Born October 27, 1939, in Florence County, she was a daughter of the late Dewey William Matthews and the late Letha Miles Matthews. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and was the owner of Player’s Fabrics and Interiors.
Survivors include two children, Benjamin “Ben” L. Keefe of North Myrtle Beach and Karen “Keefee” Keefe of Mt. Pleasant; a grandson, Sean Michael Keefe of El Paso, TX; sisters, Genell Hyman of Lake City and Joyce Pounder of VA.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Kathleen Poston and Vickie Buchanan; and brothers, Leo Matthews and Donald Matthews.
A graveside service will be held at 5 P.M. Thursday in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. James Melton officiating.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 P.M. Thursday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home.
