Obituary for Monte Dean Duncan

Monte Dean Duncan, 68, husband of Myo Yu Duncan, died Monday, November 15, 2021, at Sprenger Healthcare in Bluffton.

Born August 19, 1953, in Topeka, KS, he was a son of the late Charles E. “Chuck” Duncan and the late Betty Porter Duncan. He retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service and then made Sumter his home. He went to school, married, raised his children, and began his civilian career in Sumter. He was formerly the owner of Duncan Dogs in Sumter. He also worked as a real estate agent for Coldwell Banker and ERA in Sumter. He was a Mason, a Shriner, and member of the American Legion and the D.A.V. Mr. Duncan was a very generous man. He donated to many local charities, supported the local police and fire departments, and was a benefactor of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Survivors include his wife; four children, Wade Duncan, Warren Duncan, Dina Verzwyvelt, and James Verzwyvelt; two grandchildren, Virgil and Robert; a brother, Craig Duncan (Barbara) of Sumter; and his canine companions, Max and Elsa.

A graveside service will be held at 9 AM Friday in the Fort Jackson National Cemetery with the Rev. Joshua Jang.
