Obituary for Florence Raye Smith (Buckner)

Florence Raye Smith, 80, widow of Norman O. Smith, died Sunday, May 9, 2021, at Prisma Health Tuomey.

Born May 18, 1940, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Ray Buckner and the late Mary Ray Buckner. She was a member of Springbank Baptist Church and retired from Madison Industries.

Survivors include a daughter, Valerie A. Gilbert (Steven) of Satellite Beach, FL; a granddaughter, Raven R. Curry (Austin); a great-grandson, Luke J. Curry; a brother, Jack Buckner (Jackie) of Dalzell; three sisters, Sylvia Atchley of Sumter, Mary Beth Fairow of Enon, OH, and Rosie Sauerhafer (Ross) of Zolfo Springs, FL; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Joan Buckner; and a brother, Gary Buckner.

A funeral service will be held at 3 P.M. Wednesday at Springbank Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Miller and the Rev. Kevin Smith officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jeremiah Sauerhafer, Greg Ray, Steven Walker, Shane Walker, Daniel Benenhaley, and Ronnie Benenhaley.

The family will receive friends at the home of Sylvia Atchley.
