Obituary for Olea Elliott Kirby

Olea Elliott Kirby, 90, husband of Almeda Salyers Kirby, died Wednesday, February 10, 2021, at Colleton Medical Center.

Born March 6, 1930, in Cowards, he was a son of the late Guy Rufus Kirby, the late Eula Mae Miles Kirby, and the late Mary Magdalene Kirby. He was a member of Sumter Freewill Baptist of Pentecostal Faith Church and retired from Korn Industries after 49 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years; four children, Patricia K. Nielsen (Vic) of Sumter, Gail Scarborough (Greg) of Sumter, Guy W. Kirby (Lora) of Dalzell, and David E. Kirby (Tina) of Sumter; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Hinnant Kirby (Wilma) of Gaston, Jimmy Kirby (Lila) of Gaston, and William Kirby (Annie) of Gaston; and three sisters, Elsie Mae Davis of Cayce, Christine Vencill of Gaston, and Janice Mooney (Craig) of Gaston.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Ricky Kirby and Harry Kirby; three brothers, Robert Kirby, Carey Lee Kirby, and Nelson Kirby; and two sisters, Eldear Kirby and Doris Harwell.

A funeral service will be held at 2 P.M. Sunday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Clyde Chan and the Rev. James Vencill officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 P.M. Saturday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of Gail and Greg Scarborough, 1735 Broome St.

Those attending are asked to wear masks and practice social distancing.
