Obituary for John Luther "Jay" Tedder III

John Luther “Jay” Tedder, III, 55, husband of Paula Annette Wells Tedder, died Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at Prisma Health Baptist in Columbia.

Born October 7, 1965, in Warner Robins, GA, he was a son of the late John L. Tedder, Jr. and the late Clara Bell Evans Tedder. Mr. Tedder was an active member of Wedgefield Baptist Church. He worked with United Refrigeration Inc., formerly CC Dickson Company as a distribution center manager. His love for Jesus, church and family were his priority. He enjoyed spending time outdoors Hunting and fishing and attending gospel singings. He especially loved hearing His Calling and Sisters By Grace.

Survivors in addition to his wife include three children, Cody Lane Tedder of New Mexico, Stephanie Lauren Harper (Benjamin) of Sumter, and Albert Shea Hodges of Hawaii; one grandson, Greyson Elliot Harper; one sister, Marilyn Smith of Sumter; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Eddie Joe Tedder and Tony Tedder Sr.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Wedgefield Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Goff officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Tod Sims, Junior Lamb, Bryan Bochette, James (Harold) Ingram, Mychael Smith Jr., and Travis Smith.

Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Wells, Ben Harper, Tony Schmidt, Ron Watford, Will Gibbons, Kenneth (KT) Thompson, Allen Helms, and Mike Reinegger.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home, from 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at Wedgefield Baptist Church and other times at the home.
