Obituary for Billy L. Newman
Billy L. Newman, 79, husband of Maureen Brown Newman, died Saturday, July 11, 2020 at Prisma Health Tuomey.
Born February 27, 1941, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Marvin Mood Newman and the late Bobbie Henrietta Yates Newman. Mr. Newman was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He owned and operated Newman Plumbing and Electrical for more than fifty years. Always a quiet person, he enjoyed camping at the beach and spending time in the mountains.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of nearly 59 years, include three children, Pattie Sinner (Terry), Darlene Wright (Jon), and Jeffrey Newman (Jan) all of Sumter; seven grandchildren, Brian Osteen (Sarah), Dana Cadena (Willie), Michael Osteen, Westley Osteen (Ashley), Ethan Osteen (Kayla), Justin Wright, and Claire Wright; eleven great-grandchildren, Phillip Cadena, Emily Cadena, Carlos Cadena, Erika Cadena, Cameron Osteen, Harley Osteen, Patrick Osteen, Eli Osteen, Noah Osteen, Lucas Osteen, and Kylie Osteen; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Ashley Marie Newman; eight brothers, Bobbie DuRant Newman, Douglas Newman, Mood Newman, Marvin Newman, Debro Newman, Dewey Newman, Knox Newman, and Shepard Newman; and four sisters, Bertha Ridgeway, Margaret Ridgeway, Katherine Lewis, and Frances Lewis.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Fraser and the Rev. Allen Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Zoar Community Cemetery. The family requests that those in attendance wear masks and practice social distancing.
Pallbearers will be Michael Osteen, Westley Osteen, Ethan Osteen, Justin Wright, Phillip Cadena, Carlos Cadena, Willie Cadena, and Jon Wright.
Nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home.
