Obituary for Mary Lou Atkinson (Hatfield)

Mary Lou Hatfield Atkinson, 95, widow of Leo Laten Atkinson passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2020 in a local healthcare facility after a brief illness.

Mrs. Atkinson was born in Bishopville, a daughter of the late Richard Wiley Hatfield and Bertha Barnes Hatfield. A fierce Christian, and diligent prayer warrior, she was a charter member of Crosswell Baptist Church and retired from owning a day care center for young children.

Surviving are her son, Ryan Atkinson of Sumter; daughter, Sonja Marian Atkinson Sepulveda (Juan) of Sumter; grandsons, Dru Adrian Sepulveda (Heather) of Midland, Michigan and Brys Kristofer Sepulveda (Miracle) of Kirkland, Washington; great grandson, Jericho Laten Sepulveda and great granddaughter, Lyra Dorothy Sepulveda both of Midland, Michigan: and sister, Lois Anderson of Hopkins, SC.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Oris Hatfield, Norwood Hatfield and Hugh Hatfield; and three sisters, Teresa Smith, Vera Hatfield and Louise Fanning.

Due to the pandemic a private graveside service will be held in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. A public memorial service is planned for the late fall.
