Obituary

Mary Lou Hatfield Atkinson, 95, widow of Leo Laten Atkinson passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2020 in a local healthcare facility after a brief illness.

Mrs. Atkinson was born in Bishopville, a daughter of the late Richard Wiley Hatfield and Bertha Barnes Hatfield. A fierce Christian, and diligent prayer warrior, she was a charter member of Crosswell Baptist Church and retired from owning a day care center for young children.

Surviving are her son, Ryan Atkinson of Sumter; daughter, Sonja Marian Atkinson Sepulveda (Juan) of Sumter; grandsons, Dru Adrian Sepulveda (Heather) of Midland, Michigan and Brys Kristofer Sepulveda (Miracle) of Kirkland, Washington; great grandson, Jericho Laten Sepulveda and great granddaughter, Lyra Dorothy Sepulveda both of Midland, Michigan: and sister, Lois Anderson of Hopkins, SC.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Oris Hatfield, Norwood Hatfield and Hugh Hatfield; and three sisters, Teresa Smith, Vera Hatfield and Louise Fanning.

Due to the pandemic a private graveside service will be held in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. A public memorial service is planned for the late fall.

Cards or condolences may be sent to 618 Antlers Drive, Sumter, SC 29150.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Crosswell Baptist Church, 604 Mathis St, Sumter, SC 29150, or to Palmetto Voices Spiritual Ensemble, 618 Antlers Drive, Sumter, SC 29150.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.

So sad to see Mrs. Atkinson's death; such a sweet lady. I enjoyed visiting with her when I went to visit my Aunt Sue back in the fall. I visited with your Mom shortly before lockdown. Sympathy to your family on your loss. Debra Mims
