Obituary for Thomas Moody "Tom or T.M." Ward Jr.

Thomas Moody “Tom” or “T.M.” Ward, Jr., 92, beloved husband of 49 years of Frances Brockington Hatcher Ward, died Monday, May 18, 2020.

Tom was born in Coward, SC, on August 27, 1927. He was a son of the late T. Moody Ward and the late LaRue Grooms Ward Tranter. He graduated from Edmunds High School. Tom served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of Crosswell Baptist Church. He retired from “The Item” after 33 years in the composing room and display advertising. He was a member of Crosswell Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he leaves to cherish his memory daughters, Nina Ward Clark (Roy) of Wendell, NC, Kathryne Ward Gillespie of Lewisburg, WV, and Becky
Ward Reynolds (Larry) of Myrtle Beach, SC; a son, Bill Ward (Tasha) of Roxboro, NC; step-daughters, Patsy Hatcher Rogerson (Tommy) of Sumter, SC and Pam Hatcher Still (John) of Greenwood, SC; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Jack May of Toms River, NJ.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Evalee Ward Fulford and Mary Dell Ward May; a brother, Philip Ward; and his step-father, Rolland “Ronnie” Tranter.

A private graveside service will be held Thursday in the Sumter Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Owens officiating.

The family would like to express their appreciation to his caregivers, Samantha, Michelle, Bobbi, Joann, and Nicky from Quality Private Caregivers, whom he loved, and to the staff of Amedisys Hospice for all of their care and compassion.
