Obituary for Mary E Bilton

Mary E. Bilton, 88, widow of Henry A. Bilton, Sr., died Monday, May 11, 2020, at NHC Healthcare in Sumter.

Born June 6, 1931, in Gilbert, she was a daughter of the late Dewey S. Taylor and the late Olivia Prescott Taylor. She was a member of Westside Baptist Church and served in the Crisis Center. She started the children’s ministry at Westside Baptist Church and worked with the Youth and the Young at Heart. Mrs. Bilton was formerly employed at Southern Bell Telephone Company, N.B.S.C., the Sumter S.P.C.A., and Shuler’s Drive-In.

Survivors include four children, Ann Bilton Skinner, Al Bilton (Beverly) Mike Bilton, and James W. Bilton (Donna) all of Sumter; grandchildren, Stephanie Drayton (Frank), Jason Bilton (Bridgett), Rikki Williams (Kevin), Ryan Bilton, Michelle Lampinen (Justin), and James Bilton; ten great-grandchildren; and a brother, Wyman Taylor (Ann) of Sumter.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Emma Frances “Cricket” Chappell; and a brother, James “Bo” Taylor.

A graveside service will be held at 11 A.M. Friday in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Aaron Reed officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 P.M. Thursday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home.
