Obituary for Billy N Shorter
Billy N. Shorter, Sr., 80, husband of the late Carolyn Wade Shorter, died Saturday, May 9, 2020, at Prisma Health Tuomey.
Born June 8, 1939, in the Davis Station community of Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Rufus Nathaniel Shorter and the late Camilla Tennant Shorter McLeod. Billy enjoyed working at Black River Electric Cooperative and later at Grace Baptist Church. He was the former owner of Billy’s Florist Shop in Sumter.
Survivors include a daughter, Kris Anne Steele; two grandchildren, Jordan Gabriel Rock and Alyssa Grace Steele; a brother, Charles W. Shorter; and a daughter-in-law, Pam Shorter; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Billy N. “Nick” Shorter, Jr.; and siblings, James William Shorter, Joan Shorter Smith, Mary Lou Shorter Mims, Tommie Robert “Bobby” Shorter, Jueline Shorter Ward, Roy Elliott Shorter, and Susie Mae Shorter Lowder.
A graveside service will be held at 3 P.M. Friday in the Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery in Davis Station with Mr. Wayne McElveen officiating.
Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
