Obituary for Betty Jean Langston (Denton)

Betty Jean Denton Langston, 88, widow of Robert “Bobby” L. Langston, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at Prisma Health Tuomey.

Born June 25, 1931 in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Herman Baum Denton and the late Dallas Bradley Denton Thames. Mrs. Langston was a very active member of Dalzell United Methodist Church where she was especially dedicated to raising funds for the Relay for Life campaign. She was also a member of the Shepherd’s Center. Mrs. Langston retired from Black River Electric Co-op after more than twenty years of service. She loved dancing, and playing cards, and was an avid fan of the Sumter P-15’s and Thomas Sumter Academy Girls Basketball.

Survivors include two children, Pamela Frazier (Robert) of Sumter, and Allen Langston (Jennifer) of Dalzell; six grandchildren, Jennifer F. King (Wyatt), James Frazier (Usha), Michael Langston (Megan), Kyndal Langston, Lewis Rogers (Melissa), and Tammy Rogers; seventeen great grandchildren; and one sister; Nancy McLeod of Sumter.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

A private graveside service will be held in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Josh Colvin, and the Rev. Mark Payne officiating.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
