Obituary for George Olin Richbourg Sr.

George Olin Richbourg, 98, widower of Sara Smith Richbourg, died Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at a local nursing facility.

Born February 9, 1922, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late George W. Richbourg and the late Catherine Strange Richbourg. Mr. Richbourg was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army and was a World War II veteran. He was a Mason, a member of the American Legion Post 15, 1971 President of the Sumter County Mental Health Association, and Past President of the South Carolina Association of Probate Judges. He served as Sumter County Probate Judge from 1963 – 1978.

Survivors include a son, George Olin Richbourg, Jr.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Lea and Doris Shelly; a special friend and caregiver, Betty Amerson; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Francis William Smith Richbourg; a daughter, Janet Tennent; a grandson, Charlie Tennent; three brothers, Franklin Richbourg, Rawlin Richbourg, and Billy Richbourg; and two sisters, Thelma Gamble and Virginia Langley.

A graveside service will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday in the Bethel United Methodist Church cemetery with the Rev. Tim Whited officiating.

Pallbearers will be Gee Richbourg, Jay Richbourg, Francis Richbourg, Jimmy Bagnal, Billy McCoy, and Randy Cubbage.
