Obituary for Andrew J. Gillette

Corporal Andrew J. Gillette, 36, husband of Marie Jackson Gillette, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2020.

Born June 21, 1983, in Orange County, California, he was a son of John S. Gillette and Cathy Mrakich Gillette. He was a member of Westside Baptist Church and the G.I.F.T. Sunday School class. He was a member of the Single Action Shooting Society (SASS). He loved model trains and was a member of several model train associations. Andrew came from a long line of law enforcement officers. He proudly served his community as a Deputy with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. He also served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force. He was a history buff and loved to watch documentaries and read. Most importantly, Andrew was a family man and loved to travel with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 12 years; a son, JohnCurtis Gillette of the home; his parents of Orange County, CA; two brothers, Steve Gillette (Lauren) and Evan Gillette both of Orange County, CA; his paternal grandmother, Beverly Gillette of CA; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, John M. Jackson, Jr. and Carol Lloyd Jackson of Sumter; and a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, John Franklynn Gillette (retired lieutenant, South Pasadena Police Department); and maternal grandparents, Nick Nicholas Mrakich and Nancy Ann Mrakich.

A funeral service will be held at 3 P.M. Sunday at the Sumter County Civic Center with the Rev. Aaron Reed officiating. Burial with military honors and Sheriff’s Office honors will be in the Sumter Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be member of the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

A visitation for family members will be from 2 to 3 P.M. Sunday at the Sumter County Civic Center. Friends and other visitors are encouraged to come by the home of John and Carol Jackson, 225 Freedom Blvd. on Friday, Saturday or Monday.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
