David James McLhinney, 75, husband of Betty Jean Lovelace McLhinney for 56 years, went home on January 10, 2020.
Born November 21, 1944, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Walter Andrew McLhinney and the late Sarah Frances Nicholes Hakowski. Mr. McLhinney served as a State and Federal Game Warden with the SC Dept. of Natural Resources and US Fish and Wildlife Service. He was also the owner/operator of McLhinney Trucking. He was a great outdoorsman, a superb fisherman and huntsman.
In addition to his wife, his memory will be cherished by his loving family. His son, David James McLhinney, Jr. (Debbie); his daughter, Erica Dawn McLhinney Thomas (Chris), his granddaughter, Kristen Elizabeth Thomas and grandson, Ethan David Thomas. He was also loved by his step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Sammy Geddings officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home.
