Obituary for Henry Jackson Mims

Henry Jackson Mims, 90, widower of the late Classie Mims and the late Frances Strickland Mims, died Sunday, September 15, 2019, at his home.

Born March 28, 1929, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Clyde Mims and the late Marie Floyd Mims. He was formerly a member of Midland Pentecostal Holiness Church and currently a member of Freedom Worship Pentecostal Holiness Church. He retired as a supervisor from Korn Industries.

Survivors include two daughters, Sylvia P. McNair (the late Kell McNair) of Gable and Barbara S. Elliott (the late Bill Elliott) of Sumter; three step-sons, James H. Strickland (Elaine) of Columbia, John H. Strickland (Lee) or Conyers, Ga, and Marion F. Strickland (June) of Sumter; grandchildren, Shawn Prescott, Lisa Parker (Scott), Amanda Mims, and Lauren M. Bagget (Stephen); great-grandchildren, Noah Parker, Jacob Parker, Daniel Parker, Hannah Parker, Lincoln Bagget, and Elsie Bagget; six step-grandchildren; ten step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Johnny R. Mims; and a brother, Ed Mims.

A graveside service will be held at 3 P.M. Wednesday in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Carl Lavender and the Rev. John H. Strickland officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 P.M. Tuesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of his daughter, Barbara Elliott, 2660 Wedgefield, Rd., Sumter.
