Obituary for Lila M Scaffe (Berry)

Lila M. Berry Scaffe, 69, wife of James D. Scaffe, Sr., died Friday, August 16, 2019, at Prisma Health Richland.

Born November 22, 1949, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Ellis T. Berry and the late Nora M. Berry of Ashwood. Mrs. Scaffe was a 1969 graduate of Ashwood Central High School. She worked in civil service at Shaw Air Force Base and Fort Benning, GA. She was a stay at home mom for 10 years before managing Berry’s Furniture and then retired from Sumter County DSS after 18 years of service. She attended Alice Drive Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years; children, Angela Trimnal (Stewart), J.D. Scaffe (Angela), and Charles Smith all of Sumter; grandchildren, Holden Trimnal, Savanah Davis (Jimmy), Chaneng Boykin (Justin), and Grainger Hickson all of Sumter; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Jeanette Widener of Camden, Dan Berry (Wilma) of Lancaster, James Berry (Donna) of Columbia, and Travis Berry (Nancy) of Lancaster; many nieces and nephews, extra “kids”, and her cat, Harley.

A memorial service will be held at 5 P.M. Wednesday at Sumter First Church of God with the Rev. Rodney Howard officiating.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 P.M. Wednesday at Sumter First Church of God and other times at the home.
