Obituary for William M. Timmons

William M. Timmons, 83, died Saturday, July 27, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family.

Born July 9, 1936, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Robert D. Timmons and the late Suella Fleming Timmons. Mr. Timmons was a member of Green Acres Assembly of God and New Testament Lighthouse Church. He was a Mason and a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Era. He was the co-owner of T & H Builders and retired from Roofco.

Survivors include four children, Angela Timmons (Robert), Jeffrey Allen Timmons (Abigail), Jordan Timmons (Josh), and Alex Payne; 3 grandsons, Cameron Mark Cox (April), Jeffery Liam Timmons, and Kole Alexander Payne; a very special niece and nephew, Myrtle Ann DeWitt and Walter DeWitt; former wife and caregiver, Katie Wright; two loving friends, Lavone Nichols and Jerry Payne; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Weccie Mae “Toby” Ardis; a son, Jeffery Mark Timmons; three brothers, Walter Timmons, Robert Timmons and David Timmons; and three sisters, Anna Ruth Britt, Florence Griffin, and Etoail DeWitt.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Wednesday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Mary Watford, the Rev. Michael Bowman, and the Rev. Kirk Baker officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Sumter Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mike Avins, Danny Avins, John Benson, Wayne Turner, McSwain Miles, and Daniel Bethea.

Honorary pallbearers will be Walter DeWitt, Earl Amerson, Butch Avins, Swain Miles, and O’Neal Williams

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home.
