Obituary for Thomas Joseph "Joe" McCants

Thomas Joseph “Joe” McCants, 76, husband of Catherine “Kitty” Wilson McCants, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2019, at MUSC in Charleston.

Born November 10, 1942, in Williamsburg County, he was a son of the late Titus McCants and the late Dell Taylor McCants. He was a member of Bethesda Church of God and retired from Farmers Telephone Cooperative after 38 years of service.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years; a son, Tommy McCants (Katana) of Sumter; two brothers, J.T. McCants (Lessie Mae) of Georgetown and Ron McCants (Barbara) of Jefferson, GA; and three sisters, Mary Cooper (Alvin) of Greenville, Ann Connelly (Kenny) of Coward, and Carol Cook (Robert) of OK.

He was preceded in death by two children, Lawanda Dell McCants and Timothy Greg McCants.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Wednesday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Ron McCants, the Rev. Al Sims, and the Rev. Chris Browder officiating. Burial will be in the Sumter Cemetery.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home.
