Obituary for Joan Lee Peebles (Norton)

Joan Lee Norton Peebles, 90, widow of John E. Peebles, died Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at Prisma Health-Tuomey.

Born December 5, 1928, in Berkeley, California, she was a daughter of the late Earl A. Norton and the late Vera Gehring Norton. Mrs. Peebles was a military wife for 20 years. She enjoyed the many travel and friendship opportunities she had while supporting her husband’s service to our country. She worked at Coker Department Store for many years and retired from Belk. Her hobbies included gardening, fishing, many different crafts, and playing Bridge.

Survivors include one son, John Peebles (Amy) of Clayton, NC; one daughter, Deborah Walsh (Marshall) of Moore; five grandchildren, Patrick Walsh, Caitlin Ranfft (Martin), Jay Disher (Diane), Collin Peebles (Ashli), and Abby Traverson; two great grandchildren, Fiona Peebles, and Jacob Ranfft.

She was preceded in death by three older sisters, and her twin sister, Jean Herring.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home.
