James Douglas Simmons, 60, died Friday, May 10, 2019, at Prisma Health Tuomey.
Born May 1, 1959, in Hendersonville, NC, he was a son of the late Donald L. Simmons and the late Glenda Louise Allen Simmons. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 21 years of service. He was a veteran of Operation Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom. He later worked in the residential construction industry. He was a member of Sumter First Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include three children, Jonathan Simmons (Heather) of Lake City, Stephanie Chandler (Ronnie) of Sumter, and Jessica Driggers (Matthew) of Turbeville; ten grandchildren, Ethan, Tanner, Alyssah, Emmitt, Bradyn, Macie, Madilee, Sawyer, Wyatt, and Hazelyn; two brothers, Michael Simmons (Lisa) and Robert Simmons all of Sumter; and a niece, Erica Simmons.
A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 1 P.M. Wednesday in the Florence National Cemetery with the Rev. Greg Pressley officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 P.M. Tuesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at 2965 Shortleaf Dr.
