Obituary for Walter Franklin "Socky" Allen Jr.

Walter Franklin “Socky” Allen, Jr., 88, husband of Ruth Blankenship Allen, died Monday, April 29, 2019, at Prisma Health Tuomey.

Born June 24, 1930, in the Horatio Community of Sumter County, he was a son of the late Walter F. Allen, Sr. and the late Bessie Memory Allen. He was a member of Concord Presbyterian Church, the Christian Men of Concord, and the Sumter Anglers Fishing Club. He retired from Shaw Air Force Base as a Civil Service electrician after 37 years of service and was the co-owner of Allen and Spencer Electrical.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years; three daughters, Suzette A. Floyd (Randy) of New Zion, Kim A. DuRant (Harry) of Alcolu; and Angela Collins Motamedi of Sugar Hill GA; five grandchildren, Shea Floyd (Ashley), Andrea F. Beard (Bob), Caroline D. Thompson (Charlie), Harrison B. DuRant (Mary-Michal), and Savannah Collins; and seven great-grandchildren, Ella Grace Floyd, Emma Leigh Floyd, Elivia Anne Floyd, Banks Beard, Zetta Carlisle Beard, Andrew Thompson, and Daniel Thompson.

He was preceded in death by four sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 4 P.M. Wednesday at Concord Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Gordon Reed officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Shea Floyd, Harrison DuRant, Charlie Thompson, and Bob Beard.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Dority and Roy Powell.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 P.M. Wednesday in the Concord Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall.
