Obituary for Myrtle Christine Humphrey (Barnes)

Myrtle Christine Humphrey passed in her home Friday, April 26th, 2019 surrounded by her loved ones.

Myrtle, 90 years old, was a native of Bishopville and longtime member of Bethany Baptist Church. She was born May 20, 1928 to James and Eva (Turner) Barnes. Myrtle was the youngest of 8 brothers and sisters.

Myrtle’s interest included her family, cooking, gardening, reading and cross-stitching.

A celebration of life service will be held at 4 P.M. Tuesday at Bethany Baptist Church with the Rev. Mendle Baker and the Rev. Dr. James Chandler officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 P.M. Tuesday at Bethany Baptist Church and other times at the home.

“Mert” will be lovingly remembered by her children, Karen Rivers and Steven Humphrey (Lisa) and son in law, Douglas Malachi. Also, by her grandchildren, Tina Rivers, Curtis Rivers (Sara), Jessica Carnes, Samara Malachi and Jeffery Pepper. Myrtle also had three great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband M.L. Humphrey and daughter Eva Malachi.
