Obituary for DeLeon Chandler "D.C." Evans Sr.

DeLeon Chandler “D.C.” Evans, Sr., 75, husband of 53 years to Virginia Fincher Evans, died Monday, April 8, 2019, at his home.

Born March 15, 1944, in Sumter, DeLeon was the only son of the late David Chandler Evans and the late Jeanette Morris Evans. He lived all of his life in the Concord Community of Sumter County.

DeLeon was a lifelong faithful member of Concord Presbyterian Church EPC. He served as Elder, Deacon and many other offices of the church. He was very passionate about the Men of the Church and served in the Harmony Presbytery Men’s organization. He was a member of Fidelity Masonic Lodge 394 AFM. In addition to farming, he worked for many years for at the Sumter Post Office and the postal room at Turbeville Correctional Institute. Although diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1997, DeLeon persevered to stay active in church and family activities.

He is survived by his wife of Sumter; a daughter, Janice Warren (Lee) of Sumter; two sons, Dee Evans (Michelle) of Manning and Kevin Evans (Shannon) of Salem; eight grandchildren, Brantlee Warren (Holleigh), Jordan Logan (Justin), Mason Warren, Shelby Evans, Chandler Evans, Aidan Evans, Kaleb Evans, and Grace Evans; two sisters-in-law, Lynn Crenshaw and Celeste Blackmon (Lee); three nephews; and one niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his only sister, Roberta Evans Elliott.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Thursday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Dane Deatherage officiating. Burial will be in the Concord Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home, 2095 Plowden Mill Rd.
