Obituary for Elmon Elberry "Papa" Nobles

Elmon Elberry “Papa” Nobles, 92, husband of Nettie Mae Ardis Nobles, died Monday, March 25, 2019, at his home.

Born January 13, 1927, in Socastee, he was a son of the late Bud Olin Nobles and the late Lorena Allen Nobles. Mr. Nobles was a retired Master Sergeant from the U.S. Army. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War, the Panamanian Conflict, and the Vietnam War. He also retired from Campbell Soup Company. He was a longtime member, Sunday School teacher, and Trustee of Bethesda Church of God.

Survivors include his wife of 27 years; three children, Carol Ann Nobles Gibson (Mike) of Hartsville, Phillip Elmon Nobles (Kaye) of Sumter, and Phyllis Nobles Kelling (Jeff) of Sumter; two step-sons, Richard “Ricky” Brian Ferst (Wendy) of Sumter, and Gregory Allen Ferst (Lea) of VA; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; a brother, Wendell Nobles; and two sisters, Kathleen Dix (Enoch) and Maude Adams (W.O.).

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois Ardis Nobles; an infant son, Terry Joseph Nobles; four brothers, David, Julian, Bud, and Bonnie Nobles; a sister, Doris Causey; a step-daughter, Teresa Ferst Pierson; and two step-sons, Timothy Allen Bramlette and Barry Lavern Bramlette.

Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Friday at Bethesda Church of God with the Rev. Al Sims officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Zach Nobles, Nathan Lawson, Kevin Morris, Kameron Morris, Neil DuBose, and Austin Tiller.

Honorary pallbearers will be Brant Williamson and Terry Beasley.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 P.M. Friday at Bethesda Church of God and other times at the home.
