Obituary for Robert Freer "Bobby" DuBose Sr.

Robert “Bobby” Freer DuBose, Sr., 77, husband of Jan McCall DuBose, died Friday, March 22, 2019 at Dixie Products.

Born May 4, 1941, in Sumter, he was the son of the late Edward Freer DuBose and the late Burgess Margaret Jenkins DuBose. Mr. DuBose was a member of Harmony Church where he had served as a Deacon, Elder, and Chaired the Building Committee of the Family Life Center. He owned and operated Dixie Products and Dixie Properties for more than 50 years. Mr. DuBose served in the Army National Guard and was a member of the Sumter Chapter of Gideons International. He was the overseer of the Hebron Presbyterian Church Cemetery. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather; and enjoyed time spent with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years; three children, Robert F. Dubose, Jr. (Megan), Samuel T. ”Pete” DuBose, Sr. (Kim), and Shannon D. Jones (Jimmy) all of Sumter; eight grandchildren, Caleb Freer DuBose (Heather), Savannah Grace DuBose, Penelope Pearl DuBose, Samuel T. “Tee” DuBose, Jr., Anna McCall DuBose, Elizabeth Burgess DuBose, Joyce Cassidy Jones, and Heidi Noelle Jones; and one sister, Mary Jane DuBose (Robert Barwick) of Lake Wateree.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church-Sumter with the Rev. Dan Keaton and the Rev. Caleb DuBose officiating. Burial will be in the Hebron Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Chris Daugherty, Barry Odom, Hugh Jackson, Roy Creech, Bill Johnson, Melvin Mixon, Cray Weeks, and Robert Buniel.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Employees of Dixie Products, Sumter Camp of Gideons International.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home.
