Obituary for Maria Dorothy McCarty (Ballerini)

Maria Dorothy Ballerini McCarty, 88, widow of Milton C. McCarty, died Sunday, December 2, 2018 at her home.

Born March 3, 1930, in Roselle Park, New Jersey, she was a daughter of the late Romualdo Ballerini and the late Settimia Brogani Ballerini. She was of the Catholic faith. She was affectionately known as “Rizo Granny” at Willow Drive Elementary School where she volunteered as a teacher assistant for many years.

Survivors include three sons, John G. O’Grady, Jr. (Carol) of Pennsylvania, Tom O’Grady (Laura) of New Jersey, and Trotty McCarty (Pam) of Sumter; three grandchildren, Robert O’Grady (Amanda), Gabriella O’Grady, and Sophie McCarty; and five sisters, Anna Belfiore and Susanne Hoeynck both of California, Rita McEvoy, Cecilia Malaspina and Patricia Mussucco all of New Jersey.

A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery officiated by Mrs. Diane Summers.

The family will receive friends at the home, 2402 Peach Orchard Road, Sumter.
