Obituary for Young Derieux "Y.D." Long

Young Derieux “Y.D.” Long, 87, husband of Bobbie Fuller Long, died Monday, November 05, 2018 at his home.

Born August 12, 1931, in Prosperity, he was a son of the late Curtis Derieux Long and the late Mary Rilla Shealy Long. Mr. Long was a member of Dalzell Baptist Church. He was a past member of Westside Baptist Church, and Bondovlove Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He also retired from Jones Chevrolet. Mr. Long was a member of the Forty and Eight - Chapter1254, and was past Chef de Gare serving in 1991. He was also a member of America Legion Post 15 and the McDonalds Coffee Club.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years; one son, Ashley Dean Long of Irmo; one brother, William “Bill” W. Long (Betty) of Sumter; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Dalzell Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Barnette officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Newberry Memorial Gardens with full military honors.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home.
