Charles E. “Buddy” Skey, 80, husband of Marie Ertzberger Skey, died Saturday, July 21, 2018, at his home.
Born August 1, 1937, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Fred Terrell Skey and the late Martha Reynolds Skey. Buddy served in the U.S. Army National Guard Reserve. He retired from the Sumter Police Department with the rank of Lieutenant Detective.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years; three sons, Sean E. Skey (Mary Beth) and Joshua T. Skey (Shay) all of Sumter, and Nicholas A. Skey (Kate) of Greenville; five grandchildren, Piper, Marsha Kate, Jackson, Anne Beatson, and Charlie; a brother, Samuel Arthur Skey of Greer; and a sister, Emma Skey Davis of Sumter.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marsha Smith Skey; and siblings, James Skey, Edley Tillery, and Lillian Davis.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Tuesday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Charles Ahtonen officiating. Burial with Police Department Honors will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Chris Sullivan, Jeff Fralick, Roy Perkins, Patrick Sullivan, Justin Ertzberger, and C.R. VandenHeuvel.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Monday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home, 435 Derek Dr.
