Obituary for Neta Mae Hayden (Brown)

Neta Mae Brown Hayden, 85, widow of G. Harley Hayden, Sr., died Monday, April 2, 2018, at NHC Healthcare.

Born May 22, 1932, in Chesterfield County, she was a daughter of the late Mack Brown and the late Rebecca Poston Brown. She was a member of Meadowbrook Church of God and retired from The Shrimper after 26 years of service.

Survivors include nine children, Pam Hayden, G. Harley “Buck” Hayden, Jr. (Barb), Steve Hayden (Donna), Teresa Hayden, Sharon Hayden, Joye Miller, Marie Hodge (Greg), Phillip Hayden, and Rhonda Hodge (Ronnie); 42 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Pam Norton Hayden; and two brothers, Howard Brown and Rob Brown.

She was preceded in death by a son, Rodney Hayden.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday at Clyde Church of God near Hartsville with the Rev. Jimmy Holley officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Friday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, Pam Hayden, 2270 Swallow Dr., Sumter.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
