Obituary for Ralph Edward Carnes

Ralph Edward Carnes, 86, husband of Bertie Dennis Carnes, died Saturday, February 3, 2018, at his home.

Born November 11, 1931, in Lancaster, he was a son of the late Rayford Carnes and the late Clara Welch Carnes. He was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. He retired from Korn Industries after 40 years of service. He was a member of the V.F.W., American Legion Post 15, Masonic Lodge #364, Order of the Easter Star Chapter 20, The Shepherd Center, and St. Mark’s Men’s Prayer Group. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife Bertie Dennis Carnes; one son, Michael Edward Carnes (Marian); two daughters, Cindy Carnes Brown (Tommy) and Karen Carnes Segars (Camp); six grandchildren, Tonya Shaw (Frank), Kevin Brown (Caroline), Matthew Carnes, Mark Carnes, William Segars and Hunter Segars; and six great grandchildren, Megan Shaw, Ashleigh Shaw, Dalton Brown, Drake Brown, Drew Brown, and Anna Porter.

Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Wednesday at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church with the Rev. Allen Vaught officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Edward Carnes, Mark Hodgin Carnes, William Camp Segars, Jr., Hunter Edward Segars, Kevin Wayne Brown, and Frank Stanley Shaw

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 P.M. Wednesday in the St. Mark’s United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 27 Broad St., Sumter, SC 29150.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
