Obituary for Delbert Knox Newman

Delbert Knox Newman, 80 husband of Mary Hawkins Newman, died Sunday, June 17, 2018 at Kershaw Health in Camden.

Born April 28, 1938, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Marvin Mood Newman and the late Bobbie Yates Newman. Mr. Newman was a member of Zoar United Methodist Church. He was a retired plumber.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 52 years; two children, Cherlyn Arrants (Gerald) and James A. Hill, Jr. (Mary) both of Bishopville; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one brother, Billy Newman (Maureen) of Sumter; one sister, Frances Lewis of Southport, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Newman; a grandson, Shawn Arrants; seven brothers; and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Carlisle Lewis and the Rev. George Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Zoar Community Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral home and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Zoar Community Cemetery, 1900 Gaymon Road, Sumter, SC 29153.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
