Obituary for Mae Mixon Cockerill

Mae Mixon Cockerill, 91, died Sunday, May 6, 2018 at Palmetto Health Tuomey.

She was born February 27, 1927 in Sumter County. Mrs. Cockerill was a member of Providence Baptist Church and attended Green Acres Assembly of God. She retired from Campbell Soup Company after twenty-five years of service.

Survivors include ten children, Barbara Baker (Joe), Rosemary Nesbitt (Marion), Ceasar Cockerill, John Cockerill (Brenda), Silas Cockerill, Newton Cockerill, Leroy Cockerill (Margaret), and Ruth Ann Dixon (Ray Paul) all of Sumter, Libby Hutto (Jimmy) of Denmark, and Mikey Cockerill of Greenville; nineteen grandchildren; thirty-three great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Cockerill; two sons, Thomas Cockerill and Eddie Cockerill; and a grandson, Thomas Cockerill.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Providence Baptist Church with the Rev. Pat Coffey, the Rev. Michael Bowman, and Pastor Wayne McElveen officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at The Barn on Hwy 15 S.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
