Sara Jenkins Rivers, 91, widow of Langdon Dinkins “L.D.” Rivers, died Sunday, March 18, 2018 at Morningside of Sumter.

Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Charles Burgess Jenkins and the late Martha Brockington Jenkins. Mrs. Rivers was a member of First Baptist Church of Sumter. She enjoyed her family and fishing with her husband prior to his death. She was known as a wonderful cook, especially her red chicken stew, macaroni and cheese, and chocolate cakes.

She is survived by two children, Langdon Dinkins Rivers, Jr. (Sheri) of Augusta, GA and Jenny McMillan (Jim) of Sumter; five grandchildren, H. Jennings Rivers of Charleston, Sheridan A. Rivers of Augusta, Meredith M. Augustine and J. Keith McMillan, III both of Columbia, and Langdon R. McMillan of Cleveland, OH; and two great grandchildren, Tucker McMillan and Callen McMillan.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Burgess DuBose, Thelma Shaw, and Eloise Harrison; and one brother, Charles D. Jenkins.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Sumter Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Bob Calvert officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be nephews, Bobby DuBose, Buddy Rivers, and Eddie Harrison, and nephews-in-law, Randy Brown, Chuck Andrews, and Johnny Watt.

The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staffs of Morningside of Sumter and Homestead Hospice for the care and support they provided.
